Gulf of Saint-Tropez Guide - Part 5
Partager
You think you know the Gulf of Saint-Tropez?
Everyone thinks they know the Gulf.
Two photos.
A sunset.
A DJ on a beach.
But here, history is older than playlists.
Let's check it in three levels.
Tourist. Local. Expert.
Goal: to make you shine during aperitif hour.
Level 1 – Tourist
The landings at Pampelonne.
You know Pampelonne for its private beaches, its legendary restaurants, its DJs from all over the world.
But before them, in August 1944, thousands of Allied soldiers landed here to liberate France during Operation Dragoon.
This beach is a piece of history.
Every August 15th, we remember.
And an important clarification.
You can say Saint-Trope if you want to be corrected by a Tropézien.
But Pampelonne is not Saint-Tropez.
It's Ramatuelle.
Here, nuances matter.
Level 2 – Local
Cogolin and the traveling carpets.
In Cogolin, since 1924, luxury carpets have been hand-woven.
Made to measure.
Piece by piece.
They can be found at the Élysée Palace, in luxury hotels, embassies, and on yachts.
You may have never set foot in Cogolin.
But some walk on "made in Cogolin" without even knowing it.
The Gulf doesn't just produce summer memories.
It produces savoir-faire.
Level 3 – Expert
The youngest village in the Gulf.
In 1895, what was just a hamlet attached to Gassin began to organize itself.
It changed its name several times.
Hameau de la Croix.
La Croix de Cavalaire.
La Croix des Mimosas.
Then in 1934, it officially became La Croix-Valmer.
The youngest village in the Gulf.
A territory that was built late, but with character.
This is the Gulf.
A landing beach turned icon.
A village that weaves for palaces.
A commune born from a hamlet.
Here, everything has a story.
Heading towards a blue journey.
See you soon,
Jules
